DENR Undersecretary Leo Jasareno stated that 12 more mines, mostly nickel operations in Mindanao, have been encouraged for suspension.
Jasareno, who is in charge of the mine audit, added that 18 companies also are problem for in addition assessment.
“We anticipate to conclude the audit late Wednesday (nowadays). The secretary [Regina Paz Lopez] will make the very last decision, so that you can be introduced on Monday,” Jasareno told journalists.
Jasareno, who is the previous director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, said that the 12 mines were facing suspension due to insufficient social improvement efforts, insufficient mining practices, technical violations, and shortage of proper siltation prevention centers.
